Abstract

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to develop a performance tool to evaluate operating room nurses.
Methods : The research tools were developed to evaluate the competency of nursing performance developed by Park et. al(2008). In the first stage, 66 preliminary items were selected through conducting reference review. At this stage 66 items were developed. In the second and third stage, the selected 62 preliminary items were modified and tested by an expert group of nurses with over 10 years experience, nurses holding doctoral degrees and professors in nursing to determine validity and 4 preliminary items were eliminated. In the fourth stage, these items were tested by the
all the hospital nurses to determine validity and reliability. Data were analyzed using the frequency,
percentage, mean, t-test, ANOVA with PASS 12.0 version.

Results : For the final tool, out of the 62 items, 46 items for the performance evaluation dimension and 16 items for the competence evaluation dimension were found to be valid and reliable. Cronbach¡¯s ¥á was .966, a promising alpha
value for the total instrument.

Conclusion : This tool is developed in this study is an efficient performance evaluation instrument providing meaningful feedback for the military operating room nurses.
